MEYS and MoH Carried-Out Ocular Inspection at MIS

Inspection of Classrooms on Physical Distancing


June 25, 2020- In light of the joint ministerial decree by the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS), and 
through the recommendation from Mr. Jose Azori Campos, Department Head of Basic Education-MEYS, an ocular inspection at MIS was carried out. It was conducted by Ms. Emilia Ayati de Sousa, Acting Head of SSK MoH-Comoro, Mr. Renato da Cruz Silva, SSK MoH-Comoro, and Mr. Fernando da Cruz, from MEYS-Dili.

The objective of the said inspection is to ensure that schools are observing and practicing the established health protocols against COVID-19 from the Ministry of Health before the reopening of classes.

Summary of Main Findings

Accordingly, MIS has met and complied the standard criteria and guidelines set by the two ministries. The inspector representatives from the inspection team were delighted by the intensive preparations done by the MIS management and staff.

During the inspection, they strictly checked on the school facilities such as the flow of physical distancing markers outside and inside the classrooms, the classrooms’ physical arrangements, the clinic, the comfort rooms, the hand washing area, the isolation room, and others.

As an overall feedback, the result of the inspection came out positive having an OUTSTANDING remark.

Next Steps

An orientation and dry run for both students and staff was scheduled on Monday, June 29 to be observed by the two ministries. This is to follow up if the school is putting into practice all the preventive measures stated in the guidelines. MIS may officially re-open face to face classes on June 30, 2020 under the “NEW NORMAL” for schools: mandatory wearing of face masks, temperature checking and hand washing upon entry at the school premise, physical distancing, reduced learning hours, etc.

Right after the inspection in the morning, the disinfection of school's environmental surfaces was immediately carried in the afternoon by the MoH to finally make MIS ready on its reopening on June 29 for the orientation and dry run and for the official start of face to face classes for Academic Year 2020-2021 on June 30.

MIS Starts Face to Face Classes on June 30

Having successfully passed the joint ocular inspection conducted by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS) and the Ministry of Health (MoH), MIS is set to start its face to face classes on June 30 for Academic Year 2020-2021 after the orientation and dry run regarding the implementation of the health protocols and preventive measures against COVID-19 on June 29 to be observed by MEYS and MoH.  However, due to the continuing threats and challenges brought about by the unforeseen enemy not only in the host country, Timor-Leste but the entire world, MIS shall reopen its classes by adapting the "NEW NORMAL" for schools and the health protocols set by MEYS and MoH.
