Maharlikans Shine Anew in a National Pageant

A Queen was once a Princess

Timor-Leste through Toto Power Foundation and equally important sponsors and organizations conducts a national pageant for Timorese kids annually dubbed as the Search for Little Miss Timor. This year is its third season with the same excitement and glamour. The said pageant attracted as many as 25 participants from all over the nation dreaming of taking home the much-coveted crown.

On the 10th of April 2016, twenty (20) grand finalists faced one another in the concluding round. They enthralled the audience with their national attires, production numbers, sportswear outfits, talents, evening gown, and of course their intelligence in the question and answer portion. Three Maharlikan students with their charm, character, and class were able to join this year’s grand finals. They are Kiara de Oliveira, Helfia Vieira Aniceto, and Savia Afonso who are all Grade II pupils.

Amidst the Cheering Crowd

The Maharlikan princesses proved to be invincible all throughout the competition. Given the support from their parents, coaches, teachers, and classmates; they took the stage with full confidence and they swayed the crowd with their talents. All of them were able to clinch a spot on the top ten and eventually one of them emerged as the champion in the person of Helfia Vieira Aniceto. One member of the audience and a pageant enthusiast herself remarked that the three really deserved to be in the top spot because they do have talents to show and more importantly they were able to deliver their answers articulately in perfect English.

Savia Afonso when asked why she joined the competition answered beautifully that it is a good exposure for her, to show what she can do, and in that way develop her skills and talents. Kiara de Oliveira in a rather theological question of what will she ask from God at that precise moment said she will pray for love and joy. Miss Oliveira is also the recipient for the Little Miss Timor Plaza Award.  Finally, Miss Helfia Vieira Aniceto spoke like a real queen when she was asked what she liked most about her parents when she said they both raised her up to be a good person and she is sharing this goodness with all of the people around her. The Little Miss Timor 2015 is also awarded as the Best in Sportswear donning a rider’s outfit with a motorbike as her father and brother are professional motocross riders.

It’s a back-to-back Maharlikan Crown

The pageant’s season 2 Grand Champion Marimar Malik who is now an incoming Grade IV student at Maharlika International School crowned her schoolmate and friend Helfia Aniceto as the new little queen of this young nation. Miss Malik quips that she is excited for her friend’s reign and what is in store for her. She advised her to remain as friendly as she always had been and that to do something good for the country in her own little ways.

Long live the Queen!
The whole Maharlikan family is proud of this remarkable accomplishment of its students. Indeed, students from MIS are not only excelling in their own right inside the school premises but also in their extracurricular activities outside the school where reality is. Further, the administration wishes to congratulate the parents of these kids for their continued trust and support, to the teachers who are readily-available to lend a hand and for everyone who made the event possible.

2021 Graduation, Moving-Up and Recognition Message from the Founder & Executive Director

T oday is a joyous day amidst these trying times! Please allow me to express my utmost  gratitude to everyone and my warmest felicitations too on this remarkable day! The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has brought drastic changes not only in East Timor but the entire world. It has created challenges and difficulties in the society that we live. Many aspects of our lives have been greatly affected and in this context, the educational process of the human person. Educational institutions were not spared. We have seen over the year the changes that everyone has to adapt in the light of elucidation and of progress. Classes were modified to comply with the protocols and guidelines of the government, health and education authorities; and due to lockdowns declared by the government, the teaching-learning processes were reformed. During the remaining two (2) months of the Academic Year 2020-2021, our students stayed and learned in their homes while their teachers taught in their own places. Tech
