No
man ever steps in the same river twice - Heraclitus
Change is the only permanent thing in this world. Everything is in constant flux and motion. Nothing ever stays the same. These three statements can be described in just one word: progress. We see a lot of developments going on in our world today. A kind of development that when used pragmatically can define its goodness and usability. One of which is the fast-changing trend of technology. In this ever-changing world, teachers too have to embrace this particular phenomenon as our learners in one way or another change in their reception of knowledge. Welcome to the world of interconnected lines and networks – the Information Age!
It is for this reason that the Executive Director of Maharlika International School Mr. Martin B. Papay Jr. delegated the school’s computer teacher to give a series of computer trainings. He sees the importance of passing knowledge and of skills to others as a mark of concerted effort in the growth of a certain institution. After all, it is this unity amongst diversity in sharing a goal that makes a society extraordinarily resolute.
Wonder is the feeling of a Philosopher, and Philosophy begins in wonder – Plato
The basic computer training for 17 international faculty and 7 local staff commenced on the 9th of January 2016 and culminated on the 20th of February 2016. It was done every Saturday in fulfillment of the day’s justification for continuing education. Mr. Conrado Baday Asejo, the program facilitator, is on his way of continuing his Master of Arts in Philosophy at Saint Louis University-Baguio City. He underwent an intensive computer training at the National Institute of Information Technology-Baguio for two months. He also holds a National Competency II certificate on Computer Hardware Servicing from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). These were all realized through the blessing of Maharlika International School and the One who makes all things possible.
Teachers and staff alike went through the creative world of Photoshop, engaging Microsoft Productivity Suites and the ever-lively Windows Movie-Maker. Minimal lectures were done by the facilitator in recognition of the training’s proactive nature. Thus, most of the time was consumed in doing hands-on and in answering practical questions. The trainer also strategized a partner of learning for everyone throughout the course which was positively accepted. The joy of discovery erupts through laughter and commendation within the school’s computer laboratory. The success brought about by the course can be determined in their new learnings and their newly acquired skills to create certificates, tarpaulins, banners, program papers and basic videos among others. These skills can be applied not only in the classroom but also for personal and professional reasons.
Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom – Aristotle
There is always a room for growth and learning comes in different situations. The questions that permeate man’s inquisitive nature give him enough reason to accept the fact that as long as he lives, learning does not stop. With that, introspection and humility come into play.
It is the facilitator’s wish that his colleagues will continuously train themselves even after the formality of instruction. He had laid down basic concepts and its progress is solely dependent on the learner’s willingness of trying and of discovering other potentialities. Indeed, it is a meaningful memory shared.
An unexamined life is not
worth living- Socrates
We are teachers and we share a distinctive mark in making a difference in this world. As human persons too, we meet diverse people who can either be a learning or a blessing to us. Keeping this in mind, may we ardently accomplish things to the best of our abilities and as a reflection of our self-worth and human dignity beyond the clicking of a mouse – that of a bigger picture: the very world that we are living in.
