Meeting Bridges Mutual Understanding, Thanksgiving Merits More Blessings

In Teamwork There is No Letter “I” only “W” and “E”

Maharlikan parents and teachers alike seek to maintain a harmonious rapport to effect a positive learning environment. This is the aim of every Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) assembly. Indeed, a dialogue constitutes the blending of different minds, hearts and hands but is totally singing the same beautiful tune.

Parents During the First General PTA Meeting
On July 11, 2015, parents flock the Maharlikan grounds for the initial PTA meeting this academic school year. Mr. Charles B. Michael Papay, the Director for Academic Programs opens the meeting by presenting the faculty and the teacher’s aides for the familiarization of the parents. Then he reiterates that only Maharlika International School is recognized by the Department of Education of the Republic of the Philippines as a Philippine School Overseas (PSO) in Timor-Leste. In this regard, only MIS has the legal right to adapt and implement the K12 Educational Curriculum of the Philippines and to use academic references and materials duly approved by the governing body. It is this fact which the school administration keeps on highlighting for they only want the best for their partners in the aim of transformative and globalized education.

Mrs. Genevieve D. Belino, the school’s Guidance Officer and Faculty follows by sharing the student manual of Maharlika International School. This manual contains all the relevant information in maintaining overall student discipline and respect for the rule of law. Parents recognize the need to discipline their children in school more so in their own homes by accommodating the said school document.

Miss Jessa Kristine A. Guinoden, a Faculty and a Participant to the 13th PSO Conference in Palawan, Philippines last May of this year rounds up the discussion on the new grading system. This grading system will focus generally on three aspects as Written Works, Performance Tasks and Quarterly Assessments. Each of these areas varies on its percentage distribution basing on the subject matter. It is the hope of both parties that this new grading system will generally reflect the learning of their children.

After the discussions and presentations, the election of the PTA Officers for school year 2015-2016 pushes thru. Here is the list of brave men and women who are willing to help and support the school in its plights and challenges.

When It Rains, It Pours
Rev Fr Reniel Nachima with the School Administrators

In our home province in the Philippines, we always recognize the presence of an Almighty who sees and guides the affairs of men. In every event of our life be it gloomy or happy, we celebrate it thru communal prayers and cultural practices. Therefore, the human person as a temple of the Spirit encompasses this spiritual essence.

The two days back-to-back Maharlikan activities end up with a Thanksgiving Mass. Rev. Fr. Reniel Nachima, SVD presides over the Eucharistic Celebration. The school administration, faculty and staff, parents and students alike formed the congregation. In his homily, Fr. Nachima inspired the faithful with the words of the prophet Jeremiah “Do not be Afraid.” He expresses that all should have full trust and confidence that all things in their own time will fall into its place. It is on those moments in which we feel like doubting and giving up that we should hold on to our Faith and never to lose hope.

After the Blessing of the New Maharlikan Building
After the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Fr. Nachima together with the congregation blessed the new Maharlikan building and prayed that this will serve its purpose of educating the youth. This newly blessed building as a place of education shall also serve to merit the teachings of the Greatest Teacher, Jesus Christ.

Sumptous Meals Prepared for Everyone
Everyone shared a hearty and sumptuous meal at the school’s covered court after the blessing.

2021 Graduation, Moving-Up and Recognition Message from the Founder & Executive Director

T oday is a joyous day amidst these trying times! Please allow me to express my utmost  gratitude to everyone and my warmest felicitations too on this remarkable day! The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has brought drastic changes not only in East Timor but the entire world. It has created challenges and difficulties in the society that we live. Many aspects of our lives have been greatly affected and in this context, the educational process of the human person. Educational institutions were not spared. We have seen over the year the changes that everyone has to adapt in the light of elucidation and of progress. Classes were modified to comply with the protocols and guidelines of the government, health and education authorities; and due to lockdowns declared by the government, the teaching-learning processes were reformed. During the remaining two (2) months of the Academic Year 2020-2021, our students stayed and learned in their homes while their teachers taught in their own places. Tech
